Introducing News
A place for the links designers send each other — submitted by the community, ranked by it, and argued about underneath.
Designers send each other links all day — a typography deep-dive, a redesign worth arguing about, a tool that finally does the thing. Until now those landed in the feed and were gone by the afternoon.
News is a place for them to stay. Post a link, and the community decides what rises.
How it works
Share anything worth reading — with the title in your words rather than the publisher's headline. What you write is what gets ranked and read, because the useful version is usually "this is the clearest explanation of variable fonts I've found", not whatever the page calls itself.
No link? Start a discussion instead. "What is everyone using for icons these days" belongs here as much as an article does.
Three ways to read it
- Trending — what is being read now. Votes decay with age, so a good link posted this morning beats a great one from last week.
- Top — the most liked, whenever they landed.
- Recent — everything, newest first.
They answer genuinely different questions, which is why all three are there rather than one compromise between them.
Discussion, properly threaded
Replies nest as deep as the conversation needs, with a line running from each avatar to the replies under it so you can follow an argument without counting indents. Fold any branch by clicking its header. Mention someone with @handle and they will hear about it. Paste a URL and it becomes a link.
Every reply can be liked, and every submission and reply can be reported — into the same moderation queue as everything else on Layers.
Where to find it
News sits in the sidebar between Feed and Designers, and the five newest submissions appear in the Feed's own rail — so something worth reading finds you even when you did not go looking.
It is open now. Post the thing you were about to send to one person.
